    Red Sox: A Look Back…

Posted by Christine E. at 10:51 am in General Comments (2)

As the disappointing 2006 campaign draws to a close, I thought it would be appropriate to go back 2 years, to a better time, when the Sox completed the greatest comeback in sports history (and the Skanks perpetrated the biggest CHOKE…) and became World Series Champions for the 1st time in 86 years…

Here is the team as it was left at the end of the 2004 Campaign:

The 2004 World Series Champions, The Boston Red Sox: Bronson Arroyo, Mark Bellhorn, Orlando Cabrera, Johnny Damon, Alan Embree, Keith Foulke, Gabe Kapler, Curt Leskanic, Derek Lowe, Pedro Martinez, Doug Mientkiewicz, Kevin Millar, Doug Mirabelli, Bill Mueller, Mike Myers, Trot Nixon, David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, Pokey Reese, Dave Roberts, Curt Schilling, Mike Timlin, Jason Varitek, Tim Wakefield, and Kevin Youkilis

Here is where they are, as of today:

11 remain with the Sox: Keith Foulke, Gabe Kapler, Doug Mirabelli, Trot Nixon, David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, Curt Schilling, Mike Timlin, Jason Varitek, Tim Wakefield, and Kevin Youkilis

    12 play on other teams:

3 with the Padres: Mark Bellhorn, Alan Embree and Dave Roberts

2 with the Yankees: Johnny Damon and Mike Myers

2 with the Dodgers: Derek Lowe and Bill Mueller

    1 each with Others
Bronson Arroyo (Reds), Orlando Cabrera (Angels), Pedro Martinez (Mets), Kevin Millar (Orioles) and Doug Mientkiewicz (Royals)

    1 has retired
Curt Leskanic: Retired after 2004 Season

    1 is MIA
Pokey Reese: Was released from the Marlins in March 2006 for leaving camp without permission, MIA since…

I was very saddened to hear about Pokey..he is a GREAT baseball player, and it’s terrible to hear that he has pretty much fallen off the face of the earth..Hopefully he will find a way back to Baseball..the game is less without him.

    3 more games to go….

I agree Christine…Pokey could make the impossible possible at SS. But so does Gonzo…if not better. 2 to go. A little sad. But my ’07 hopes are high, with potential upheavals everywhere. But not in rightfield (please, WMP in right is big time trouble), or at third (he’s been a basher and a vacuum all season..our Mikey). That’s it…great weekend, number two and closing fast!

Have just posted my ’06 Red Sox Toast & Drinking Game:

Tim Mc Carver’s Candidate for MVP, is just a line with no name, but we know who he is with all that ‘Drivel”.
