    Red Sox 0, Toronto 5 3rd Place Feels WEIRD….

Posted by Christine E. at 9:41 am in General Comments (2)

The last time we were this far down this close to the end of the year was at the end of September 2000 (but we ended up in 2nd place anyway)…and you know what? I am not that upset about it…Would I have liked to have been in the post season? Absolutely. But it’s different this year…Maybe it’s because we won the World Series in 2004, but I was more upset last year when we got bounced by the White Sox in the ALDS…Weirdness…

And our record since the All-Star break? 30-41, a .422 record….UGH…And the Sox will BARELY stay above .500 for the season, currently at 83 wins…double UGH…”You’re playing for pride right now,” Wakefield said. “Hopefully, we can win some more games before the season’s over.” Good thing Baltimore is 14.5 game behind, or we could be playing for FOURTH place…

Celebrations galore: Tonight’s pregame activities will include honoring Big Papi for breaking the Sox record for homers in a season (currently standing at 53), and tying Babe Ruth for AL road record of 32 homers in a season. Jimmie Foxx’s daughter, and Babe Ruth’s granddaughter will be in attendance for the presentations.

Tomorrow, Johnny Pesky will be 87, and the Sox will celebrate it in grand style, by officially naming Pesky’s Pole…Pesky’s Pole…Dom DiMaggio, Bobby Doerr, and Frank Malzone will be attendance for the festivities…

Matt Clement was to have a MRI yesterday during his visiting to premier orthopedist Dr James Andrews, which will also include exploratory surgery today to try and figure out what is up with his right shoulder..Hey Doc, can you get to his brain through his right shoulder? Cause I am thinking THAT is where the problem lies…

And hey, GUESS what, Manny might honor us with a start in the outfield….isn’t that NICE of him? There is FAR too much brouhaha about Manny..Yes, I understand he is a great hitter, and for a while “Manny being Manny” was charming, but now its counter productive…and annoying…If they keep him, I am fine with that. If they trade him, I am fine with that…

5 more games: 2 against the Satan Fish and 3 against the Oreos–what a way to end a season…..But at least they are all at home…

Tonight: Curt Schilling vs Jason Hammel, 7:05pm: Maybe the 7th time will be a charm…

      30-41……AAAHHHHHHH!!!

And the ceremonies tonight and tomorrow? Special moments to savor, and remember. I know I will.

Won’t see tonight’s pregame, but I will tomorrow…Johnny Pesky is one of my favorite Red Sox EVER..and I cannot think of a classier human being in all of baseball…
