Red Sox 4, Angels 10 As the deadline draws near…

Posted by Christine E. at 12:30 pm in General No Comments

Between the whole sack o’ suck that was last night’s game, picking up some reliever from the Rangers they didn’t want anyway (whoo hoo!), David Wells pitching tonight WITHOUT a rehab start, the Skanks picking up a pitcher AND Bobby Abreu (to be fair, he has not been very good this year), Trot is hurt, the rumors are saying that Mike Lowell is going away…or that there will NOT be a great deal by 4:00pm… I am having this horrible feeling of SOMETHING in the pit of my stomach…and I don’t like it–NOT ONE BIT….

    Lets break it down:

Curt Schilling, as reliable at Fenway as reliable goes….8-0 this season, and 4-0 again the Angels! Which of course kicked in the dreaded ” Reverse Lock”, meaning he would get shellacked and we would not be able to gett he hits we need–It wasn’t a 19-6 drubbing, but since Skeezy Bastard redeemed himself by hitting 2 homers to help the Skanks beat Tampa Bay, we are back to the tenuous 1/2 game ahead–which leads us to tonight’s start…

Boomer is back! Tito is saying he is great, ready to go, and will be held to 95-100 pitches…So why I am feeling so worried? I know David Wells is a big game pitcher, and has come up big when the chips were down….But I don’t have a good feeling about this…..I reallyREALLY hope I am horribly wrong….

During the 3rd inning in last night’s game, Trot takes a swing at an off-speed pitch and crumples in pain, prompting the team to take him out immediately..Currently, he is listed as day-to-day, with an upper arm strain, but will have an MRI today. Depending on how things turn out, it may mean that Wily Mo is no longer trade bait…

Not my idea of a blockbuster deal: RP Bryan Corey from Texas for right-hander Luis Mendoza. While he is definitely better than Seanez and Tavarez, (his record was 1-1 with a 2.60 ERA in 16 games with the Rangers) and with Manny Delcarmen having soreness and inflammation at the base of his right thumb, he could be useful, this is not going to be the move that kicks us over the top, especially with the Cory Lidle/Bobby Abreu move the Skanks made… No, I don’t want to do something stupid because they made this deal..But C’mon…..

Another comment on the Abreu deal…the Skanks have absorbed another HUGE contract–$4.3 million of Abreu’s $13.5 million salary for the rest of this year, plus $15.5 million next season. He has a club option for $16 million in 2008 with a $2 million buyout, which has yet to be exercised. All this money for an aging player who has not been the same since winning the Home Run Derby last year (some say it screwed up his swing) hmmm…the Skanks trading for an aging star in his decline….wow…what a surprise there…

Good point: with this deal, it could effectively end Gary Sheffield’s time with the Skanks, who has a $13 million option for next year…Not having to listen/see him? Priceless…

Another thing From the “Its not surprising in the least” Department: Keith Foulke was scratched from his rehab appearance for Pawtucket over the weekend with lower back tightness…Foulke has been plagues by intermittent back problems for several years…No timetable for continuing rehab…

Nomar is back on the DL with a sprained right knee ligament….Who had July 30th in the injury pool?

And you know it’s trade time when people start talking about Roger Clemens coming to Boston…AGAIN…

Tonight…David Well vs. Paul Byrd 7:05pm…Here we go….
