Red Sox 3, Angels 8 I turn my back for one minute…

Posted by Christine E. at 9:53 am in General No Comments

And complete and utter HELL breaks loose….and because the Skanks pummeled the Devil Rays, a mere 1/2 game separates us from total destruction (or at least 2nd place…)
    Some random thoughts:

John Lester gets his 1st loss in 10 starts, so now his record stands at 5-1, 2nd start where he gave up 5 runs…hopefully not the beginning of a disturbing trend…and this is certainly a game we could have won…we left 9 men on base–the Angles left 7…

From the “Don’t get your hopes up” Department: Keith Foulke was perfect in his rehab assignment with Single-A “Mike Lowell” Spinners. He pitched one inning last night, allowing no runs and no hits, with one strike out one, throwing 12 pitches, 10 for strikes. If he feels ok, he’ll head to Triple-A Pawtucket for Sunday, with the goal of his returning to the Sox sometime next week. Foulke has be one the DL since June 12 with elbow tendonitis. While I would like nothing more than for Foulke to return to the dominance he showed in 2004, especially during the playoffs, (As far as I am concerned, HE was the MVP of the World Series, not Manny) I just don’t think he has the stuff anymore…

Welcome Back J-Lo: With Kason Gabbard returning to Pawtucket, the Red Sox recalled Javier Lopez from Pawtucket for last night’s game. He pitched a 1/3 of an inning, giving up 1 hit. He had thrown six shutout innings since being demoted to Triple-A on July 18.

So they are really going to do it: David Wells is slated to start Monday night’s game vs. Cleveland…better start drinking now…

Big Rumor on Campus: The Sox have been in negotiations for Philadelphia pitcher Jon Lieber (3-7, 5.55 ERA)…But not at this price: The Phillies are reportedly asking for Craig Hansen or Jon Lester. Fortunately, the Sox have pretty much said “uh, NO…” The Skanks have also been looking into Lieber, who pitcher for them rather successfully in 2004 (14-8, 4.33 ERA) Do you see his record for this year??? I know he is pitching for the Phillies, but C’mon…..we already tried that, (and his name is Jason Johnson…) do we need to go down this path AGAIN???

Name for the Top 9 strangest list–I have no idea how I missed it….Minnesota Pitcher Boof Bonser!! And that is his REAL NAME..and he is from Florida….what the HELL kind of name is Boof? But he’s 6′ 4″ and 240 lbs, so I am guessing not too many people ask him about that….

Today: Josh Beckett vs. Jered Weaver, 1:20pm–Do I need to mention that we really need to win this game?
