OK, now let me get this straight…Dan Haren, who hasn’t has a win in SIX WEEKS, and is the proud owner of a 7-9 record..actually held the Red Sox to four hits…FOUR HITS…

There is only so many times I can have this crap erased from my mind before there is damage..I KNOW it…

Since I absolutely refused to discuss this game–and because Boston Red Thought is also about educating…here is a bit of trivia for you…

Every time the Sox play Oakland, right after they make me queasy, I would wonder what was up with the whole Elephant on the sleeve thing. Finally I went to good old Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia..and here is what they had to say…

The origin of The Oakland A’s Elephant Mascot

After then New York Giants Manager John McGraw told reporters that Philadelphia manufacturer Benjamin Shibe, who owned the controlling interest in the new team, had a “white elephant on his hands,” Mack defiantly adopted the white elephant as the team mascot, though over the years the elephant has appeared in several different colors (currently forest green). The A’s are sometimes, though infrequently, referred to as the Elephants or White Elephants.

The elephant was retired as team mascot in 1963 by then-owner Charles O. Finley in favor of a Missouri mule. In 1986, the elephant was restored as the symbol of the Athletics and currently adorns the left sleeve of home and road uniforms. In 1997, the elephant came to life for the first time in the form of a mascot, Stomper.

and that…is the rest of the story…

Today: an off day, as the Sox return to Friendly Fenway to play the LA Angels of Texas, Baltimore, San Diego USA (or whatever their name is this week…) Jon Lester and Kelvim Escobar will take the mound…
