Red Sox 5, White Sox 6–in 19 Innings!!! How am I supposed to go three days without Red Sox baseball??

Posted by Christine E. at 7:30 pm in General No Comments

Wow…a hell of a game on Sunday night…some thoughts on that, the Home Run Derby and the upcoming all-star game…

Can’t be too hard to Papelbon, it was only his 3rd blown save, most of the time he is completely automatic. Not real happy with Timlin’s performance, and CERTAINLY not happy with Rudy Seanez’s…but that is nothing new…and what about Julian Tavarez and his 4 innings of zero run ball? Maybe he’s off his meds and the voices are coming back…whatever it was–very impressive

I am glad to see that Tito has been turning to Craig Hansen and Manny Delcarmen, rather than the “Z” boys. Both of them have very good stuff, and are cool under pressure–it’s nice to see the wave of the future…and have them succeed…

Jason Varitek, who went 0-9 in Sunday’s marathon, also caught all 19 innings, which was comprised of 270 pitches–270 PITCHES…that does not even include the warm-up stuff! Can you imagine? I crouch for 5 minutes and my legs are hurting! Good thing he did not make the All-Star Tea–he needs a SERIOUS break…

Jason Johnson has been demoted! Whoo Hoo! The Sox optioned Jason Johnson to Single-A Wilmington today. He will get the start on Wednesday, when the Blue Rocks host Frederick. Since Triple-A Pawtucket is off until Thursday, and Double-A Portland is off due to the All-Star Break in both the International and Eastern Leagues, this move made sense. Now, the move that would make the most sense is getting rid of this guy…

David Ortiz hit 10 homers in the first round of the Home Run Derby, last night, but only hit three in the second round and was eliminated. At least 5 or 6 of Big Papi’s homers went into the drink–he should have gotten double points for those…

And what about Big Papi leading the MAJORS with 31 HR’s and 87 RBI’s…he usually leads the American League, and someone in the National League had about 5 more HR’s…Ortiz really needs to be the MVP this year…and for those of you who think a DH should not win–Big Papi IS the best at his position, and that position is DH…he IS the most valuable player, without him, the Red Sox would not be where there are today–guaran-damn-teed…

And how about Chris Berman from ESPN and his most annoying “Back Back Back Back” ? crap every time someone hit a homer? Hasn’t someone told him he sounds like a freakin IDIOT, and that there is no one on the planet that thinks
it’s even remotely charming/entertaining/relevant/something you want to hear. EVER

Speaking of the utterly stupid–WHY haven’t the sportscasters for the Chicago White Sox lost their jobs? I mean TRULY…on Sunday (I only watched the 1st 12 innings, as I was not home…maybe something changed-but I doubt it…) they bitched and whined for most of the game on how “they” got a different strike zone than “we” did…They are completely unprofessional, and c’mon tell me, who is the mental giant who thought up “He Gone” when one of their pitches strikes someone out? and no, its not a typo… its “he Gone”…Holy Crap! Not only is it grammatically WRONG AND HORRIBLE, it’s a LAME attempt to sound all rapper and thuggy–and trust me, these guys are about as far from thuggy as you can get…and what is also truly awful is you’ll see people at the park with SIGNS that SAY this…and they wave them around when a ChiSox strikes someone out…how pathetic is that??? If I heard it one more time (and in a 19 inning game I would have head it a lot) I was going to CALL the studio and ask them WHAT THE #@(*&#@*&#*@&#*(@&???? Does someone actually think this is a good thing? Or was thinking not involved in this selection process??

Someone asks me today if I was offended that Manny opted to not go to the All Star game? Not at all…Yes, I voted for him, but I would much rather he be healthy for the 2nd half when WE need him…Alot of controversy was swirling around about Manny “thumbing his nose” at fans. Puhlees…Is there nothing else to write about? Of course, watching Bud Selig kvetch about it IS mildly amusing…

While I was watching the HR Derby last night, they showed Mark Loretta filming Big Papi–I am so glad he had the opportunity to go–AND start–he has worked very hard and has been a BIG contributor to the team this year, in the field in the clubhouse, and at the plate. THOSE are the type of players who should get to go, not necessarily the superstars, or someone who plays for the Yankees…

Tonight: The All-Star Game–Because THIS TIME IT COUNTS!!! Whatever…
